Turku Prize 2011 : prix de publication du meilleur livre européen en histoire de l’environnement

ESEH and RCC Turku Book Prize 2011

The European Society for Environmental History (ESEH) and the Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society (RCC) are pleased to announce the new Turku Book Prize. The prize is named after the city of Turku, Finland, where it will be awarded for the first time at the 6th annual ESEH Conference, 28 June– 2 July 2011.

The Turku Book Award is intended to identify and encourage innovative and well-written scholarship in the field of environmental history. The 2011 prize, worth € 3000, will be awarded for the best book in environmental history published in 2009 or 2010. Books may be nominated by authors, publishers, or members of the ESEH. Preference will be given to books that focus at least partly on Europe and/or to authors who are affiliated with European institutions.

How to apply:
Applicants are asked to submit one copy of the monograph by (snail) mail to the Rachel Carson Center in Munich and an electronic copy (if available) to the e-mail listed below. If the monograph is written in a language other than English, please include a one-page English summary.
All book nominations must be followed up with the submission of one hard copy of the monograph and one electronic copy (if available) to the Rachel Carson Centre by 15 January 2011. No nominations will be considered if no hard copy of the monograph is received.

ESEH Best Article Prize

The European Society for Environmental History (ESEH) welcomes submissions
for its Best Article Prize. The prize is intended to identify and encourage
innovative and well written research in the field of environmental history
of Europe. It will be awarded to an article published in 2009 or 2010.
Submissions are welcome from senior and junior scholars from all countries,
even though some preference may be given to junior scholars from Europe. The
prize will be awarded at the 6th ESEH Conference, 28 June– 2 July 2011 in
Turku, Finland.


The ESEH publication prize is intended for an article on any subject in
European environmental history and in any European language. The winner will
receive a money prize worth of € 500 as well as a travel grant (if needed)
to attend the ESEH conference in Turku in 2011. Applicants are asked to
submit their published article by e-mail as a PDF-file attachment to the
address below. If the language of the publication is not English, applicants
should include a one-page English summary.

All submissions must be received by 30 November 2010. The winner will be
notified at the beginning of May 2011.
